Mahabubnagar: Mahabubnagar District Collector S. Venkat Rao has suspended Deverkadra MPDO, sarpanch and panchayat secretary for printing fake receipts books of cattle fair and indulging in malpractices.

Devarkadra cattle fair is a popular market and apart from local farmers, others from far off places too participate in the fair.

The malpractices of some people, especially those connected with the gram panchayat, came to light when Additional Collector Tejas Nandalal made a surprise inspection. During his visit, he observed that the sarpanch’s son was issuing fake receipts pertaining to sale and purchase of cattle and was collecting fee accordingly, the Collector said.

The Additional Collector seized all the fake receipt books from the sarpanch’s son’s vehicle. Police had already booked a case against him in the past, he said.

In this regard, show-cause notices were served on sarpanch Konda Vijayamma, MPDO Srinivas Reddy and panchayat secretary Vanitha. With the three failing to respond to the notices, they were suspended, the Collector said, adding that an enquiry has been ordered into the entire incident.

Apart from inflicting losses to the gram panchayat, the three were violating gram panchayats rules and hence were suspended, Venkat Rao said. Mahabubnagar District Collector S.
