Mahalakshmi scheme sees 97.20 lakh rise in women passengers in Telangana
The Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme for women recorded an increase of 97.20 lakh passengers during July-September 2026 compared with the same period last year. TGSRTC has added buses and trips on several inter-district and Hyderabad-linked routes to meet rising demand

Hyderabad: The State government’s ‘Mahalakshmi’ free bus travel scheme for women has seen a significant rise in usage, with an additional 97.20 lakh women passengers availing the facility during July, August and September 2026 compared with the corresponding period last year.
According to TGSRTC data, 3,467.91 lakh (34.67 crore) women passengers travelled under the scheme during the three-month period in 2025. The number increased to 3,565.11 lakh (35.65 crore) during the same period in 2026, an increase of 97.20 lakh passengers.
TGSRTC officials said the rise in demand had prompted the corporation to increase the number of buses and trips on routes witnessing heavy passenger traffic. Additional trips have particularly been introduced on inter-district and major routes.
The routes that have received additional services include Khammam–Illandu, Illandu–Kothagudem, Khammam–Madhira, Suryapet–Khammam, Huzurabad–Karimnagar, Karimnagar–Godavarikhani, Hanamkonda–Karimnagar, Sangareddy–Hanamkonda, Hanamkonda–Thorrur, Nalgonda–Devarakonda, Nalgonda–Suryapet, Devarakonda–Miryalaguda and Achampet–Devarakonda.
Additional services have also been arranged on routes connecting Hyderabad with the districts, including Siddipet–JBS, Nagarkurnool–Hyderabad and Kosgi–Hyderabad. Services have also been increased on routes in north and south Telangana, including Banswada–Nizamabad.
TGSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Y Nagi Reddy said the corporation was continuously monitoring passenger demand through depot managers and field-level officials.
