Mahendra Hills register emphatic win over SBI

Hyderabad: Mahendra Hills Basketball Club defeated State Bank of India, Amaravati, 82-36 after leading 39-18 at half-time in the GM Sampath Kumar Memorial Annual League Basketball Championship at YMCA, Secunderabad, here on Thursday.

Mahendra Hills displayed flawless basketball in the first quarter, at times scoring fast-break points through Tagore and Tanay. With the defence already set, Daniel scored from outside the arc, contributing 12 points, while their tight defence restricted SBI to just six points as Mahendra Hills took the first quarter 22-6.

In the second quarter, SBI showed grit and determination, scoring 12 points through Bijoy and Pandu. However, Tanay scored three consecutive baskets to help Mahendra Hills bounce back as they led 39-18 at half-time.

After the change of ends, SBI tried hard to make a comeback, scoring nine points apiece in the third and fourth quarters. Mahendra Hills, however, was equal to the task, scoring 22 and 21 points in the two quarters to win the contest comfortably.

For SBI, it was their first loss in three matches.
