Mahesh Kumar Goud targets KCR over Dalit welfare on Vinayaka Chavithi
Telangana Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud criticised BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao over the alleged neglect of Dalit welfare and development. He questioned the implementation of Dalit Bandhu, sought a white paper on BRS promises and hit back at the BRS mock Assembly.
Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress continued its criticism of BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao even on a festival day, accusing him of neglecting the welfare and development of the Dalit community in the State.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Vinayaka Chavithi, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said circumstances sometimes compelled the party to discuss politics even on a festival day.
“BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao never seriously worked towards the upliftment of the Dalit community. Dalit Bandhu was introduced solely for the Huzurabad by-election,” he charged.
He also questioned how many people had actually benefited from the Dalit Bandhu scheme. He made the remarks without referring to the Congress’ promise to increase the financial assistance under the scheme from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12 lakh.
“Mere installation of a towering Ambedkar statue is not sufficient. The great man’s advice and values must be put into practice. A white paper must be released concerning the promises made by BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao,” he demanded.
Goud said the incident in which the Speaker was allegedly insulted based on his caste had exposed the BRS’ attitude towards Dalits. He said the Congress was releasing a document on the promises made by Chandrashekhar Rao in 2003.
Unmindful of the mounting criticism over the playing of ‘Chavu dappu’, a traditional drum beat associated with funeral processions, outside Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence at Erravalli, Goud countered the BRS’ act of “cleansing” the streets walked upon by Dalits.
“K Chandrashekhar Rao has insulted the Dalit community and his politics need to be cleansed,” Goud maintained.
Hitting back at the BRS’ mock Assembly, he demanded that former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav be made the Leader of the Opposition.
