Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud appealed to party cadre to remain calm and maintain harmony after a news channel’s campaign triggered unrest within the Telangana Congress.
“We respect the freedom of the press. It is the party cadre that determines our performance and not the media,” Goud said in a statement issued on Friday night.
He alleged that a television channel aired fabricated reports targeting him and the Congress party throughout the day to damage his personal reputation.
“A news channel aired a fabricated story regarding me and the Congress party throughout the day. These reports, filled with falsehoods and wild allegations, were broadcast with the specific intent of tarnishing my reputation,” Goud said.
He said the reports had naturally angered party workers and supporters. However, he stressed that the Congress party always functioned within the framework of the Constitution and respected freedom of expression and media freedom.
“There is no need to feel distressed over what is broadcast on a particular channel. It is the party cadre that has the right to assess and judge our work, not the media,” he said.
Appealing for restraint, the TPCC chief urged party workers not to react in anger and instead remain patient, united and disciplined. “I appeal to party workers not to lose their composure. Remain patient, calm and united in harmony. Time will answer everything,” Goud added.
