Hyderabad: Malkajgiri MLA M. Rajasekhar Reddy on Thursday submitted a representation to Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan raising serious objections to several provisions of the proposed Core Urban Regional Economy Area (CURE) Bill, 2026 and urging the government to comprehensively review the draft before its enactment.

In his representation, the MLA stated that while urban development and better governance were welcome objectives, the Bill in its present form weakens democratic local self-government and is inconsistent with the spirit of the 74th Constitutional Amendment.

Among other issues, he highlighted concerns such as excessive centralisation of powers, no mandatory Ward Committees, financial burden on citizens, Capital value-based Property Tax, no financial powers to zonal administration and government control over Municipal Corporations.

Rajasekhar Reddy urged the government to hold wider consultations with elected representatives, RWAs, urban governance experts and other stakeholders before finalising the legislation.
