Hyderabad: Officials of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) on Wednesday removed encroachments from footpaths in Malkajgiri junction amid protests by petty vendors.
The anti-encroachment drive was carried out by MMC teams and cleared structures and kiosks that had occupied pedestrian space, according to an MMC official. However, petty vendors who were doing business here over the past several years protested the removal of their kiosks.
The vendors attempted to stop the earth remover and requested not to demolish their bread and butter sources, but the MMC officials continued the drive despite the protests, with assistance from the local police.
The vendors also pleaded with the MMC officials for some time to be given to them so that they could vacate on their own. The drive has been continuing for the past week in Malkajgiri Municipal limits.
