Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri police have seized records from three fertility centres as part of their investigation into an alleged illegal egg donation racket and are examining them to identify violations of prescribed procedures and possible falsification of documents.
Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi said the records seized from the three centres were being scrutinised and cross-verified to establish whether mandatory documentation relating to egg donors had been properly maintained.
She said the investigation was examining several aspects, including whether Aadhaar details had been misused, unmarried women were falsely shown as married, details about children were altered, signatures were forged or one woman’s identity was used to register another person as an egg donor.
“Under the prescribed procedure, egg donors are required to submit several documents, including identity proof, marital status, details of children, blood group, health profile and informed consent. We are verifying whether these formalities were followed and whether the documents were genuine,” said the official.
She further said ART centres and fertility centres had distinct roles in the treatment process. While ART centres directly interacted with egg donors, fertility centres performed a different role. The police were examining whether the prescribed safeguards were followed at every stage.
“The administration of hormonal injections to women to stimulate egg production was another aspect under investigation. We are examining whether the injections were administered within the permitted medical protocols and whether there were any violations. Merely being associated with a centre does not make everyone an accused. Action will be taken against those against whom evidence of wrongdoing is established,” she said.
She added that the investigation would cover all aspects, including the role of intermediaries and the centres involved, and that no one found responsible would be spared.
