Malvika Raaj turns sharpshooter in ‘Squad’
The debutante is all set to make her Bollywood debut with the film starring Renzing Denzongpa
Do you remember the light-eyed cutie who played Kareena Kapoor’s younger version in Karan Johar’s ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’? Well, that cutie is all grown up now. Malvika Raaj is making her Bollywood debut as a leading lady with the film ‘Squad’ opposite Renzing Denzongpa.
The film, directed by Nilesh Sahay, is an action-packed movie that will see Malvika play a sharpshooter on a mission. “I play a sharpshooter and she is part of a mission to get a 6-year-old child back to her country. We trained for six months under a Polish trainer before we began shooting. They were quite intense training sessions,” says Malvika.
Some 90 per cent of the film was shot in Belarus in Minsk, with the rest shot in Mumbai.
Quiz her on the long gap between her Bollywood debut and first film as a child artiste in ‘K3G’ and she replies, “My parents were a bit hesitant about me continuing in films post ‘K3G’; that’s why I took a break. Later, I took up modelling and then also did a Telugu film called ‘Jayadev’.”
What she liked about the script was the action scenes she got to do. “I loved the fact that it’s different from a typical Bollywood film. There are a lot of action sequences in it. And as a debutante, I am doing a lot of it. Our action director has worked in ‘Matrix’ franchise and ‘Mad Max Fury’. It was an honour to work with him,” reveals Malvika.
She also doesn’t feel any pressure about being a newcomer. “I don’t really feel the pressure. I want to put my best foot forward. The pressure is there to give my best. Action is something I would love to do again. Dancing is something I like a lot. Right now, I’m very new to the industry and I need to find my niche in the industry here. I’m still in the process of understanding myself,” shares Malvika.
She also says that she is in touch with Karan Johar and while there have been talks of a project, “there is nothing concrete on paper yet”. She is now looking forward to the response for ‘Squad’, which released on ZEE5 on November 12.
