Khammam: A person who attacked a female forest beat officer in Sathupalli forest division recently was booked and arrested, District Forest Officer (DFO) Siddharth Vikram Singh said.
In a statement here on Monday, he said the Khammam forest department strongly condemned the brutal attack against the beat officer while she was on duty on March 12. The accused smashed her mobile phone with an iron rod, behaved in an obscene manner and subjected her to severe threats, he said.

Based on the beat officer’s complaint, a case was registered against the accused at Chandrugonda police station in Kothagudem district under the Sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 296(b) (obscene acts in public), 74 (criminal force against a woman), 132 (assaulting a public servant), 118(1) (causing hurt using dangerous weapons) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) read with Section 62 of the BNS.
It was extremely unfortunate that such attacks were being perpetrated against forest personnel particularly against female officers, who were working tirelessly to protect forest resources and wildlife, the DFO Vikram Singh noted.
Anyone who obstructs government employees in the discharge of their duties, regardless of their stature, would face strict legal punishment. The forest department would never compromise on the safety and security of its staff. A full-scale inquiry into this incident is underway. The forest department staff should not lose heart and the department would stand by them, the DFO added.
