Adilabad: A man was booked on Friday for leaving his cattle on National Highway 44, leading to a road accident that claimed the life of a woman and left 13 others injured at Kokusmannur village in Gudihathnoor mandal on Thursday.

Utnoor ASP Kajal Singh, in a statement, said a case was registered against Rao Sab Shinde of Mukhra (K) village in Echoda mandal for allowing his cattle to stray onto the highway. She warned that strict action would be taken against owners of cows and oxen, who neglect their responsibility to safeguard their animals.

Thirteen passengers travelling in a TGSRTC bus and an auto-rickshaw sustained minor injuries, while Mekala Bheemakka (50), a resident of Mandaguda village in Bhoraj mandal, died on the spot. The accident occurred when a tanker hit both vehicles after the bus driver swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting cows that were on the highway at Kokusmannur.
