Hyderabad: The Kukatpally police have detained a man identified as Sanjay in connection with the murder of a 10-year-old girl, Sahasra, reported on Monday.
As per available information, Sanjay, a native of Odisha, had been residing on the second floor of the same building where Sahasra’s family lives.
Neighbours told police that he had been frequently visiting the girl’s house over the past few days, especially when her parents were away at work.
Investigators suspect that Sanjay bore a grudge against Sahasra’s family, believing they were responsible for his wife’s illness. However, they are probing other angles too. Acting on strong suspicion, police took him into custody for questioning.
According to the police, the girl, a sixth standard student, was alone at home while her parents, Krishna and Renuka, had gone out for work.
The incident came to light when her father returned home around noon to collect tiffin for his son, who was at school. He found the girl lying in a pool of blood on the bed with her throat slit.
Police said the victim stayed home as her school had declared holidays.
Further investigation is underway in all possible angles.
