Kothagudem: A man who lost both his legs in a freak accident at Yellandu in the district died while undergoing treatment at District Hospital in Khammam on Thursday.

The deceased, Mohammed Ishaq (50), an animal skin trader of Jagadamba centre, was going to Station Basti on his bicycle to collect animal hides.

As a goods train was passing through an unmanned level crossing on the road, he tried to stop the bicycle but its brakes failed.

As a result, the bicycle hit a wagon of the goods train and went under it along with the rider. Alert locals pulled him out but by that time, both his legs were crushed by the moving wagons.

With heavy bleeding, he was immediately rushed to the District Hospital, but in vain.
