Hyderabad: A 43-year-old man from the city was duped to the tune of Rs.2.5 lakh by cyber fraudsters who promised a part-time work from home job.
In January 2025, the victim was contacted via WhatsApp by a fraudster who offered a part-time work-from-home job. The job required the victim to provide Google reviews and feedback on restaurants, for which they initially received some payments.
After gaining the victim’s trust, the fraudsters introduced an investment opportunity, promising high returns. The victim was then instructed to contact a person on Telegram, who further explained the job details and payment process.
“Later, another scammer, using the Telegram ID guided the victim to create an account on a trading platform and was also added to a group where several other victims were present. Under false promises and coercion, the victim transferred a total amount of Rs 1.5 lakh,” cybercrime officials said.
Based on the victim’s complaint, the Hyderabad Cybercrime police booked a case and took up investigation.
