Adilabad: A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for torturing his wife mentally and abetting her to commit suicide six years ago.

District Assistant Sessions judge CM Rajyalaxmi pronounced the verdict, awarding the term and the fine against Dandepalli Narasaiah from Sirsanna village in Bela mandal. This was after his wife Devatha died by setting herself ablaze on October 18, 2019. The court cross-questioned 14 eyewitnesses.

Narsaiah was booked for torturing his wife under the influence of liquor and for abetment of suicide.

SP Akhil Mahajan commended court duty officer A Venkatamma and Bela police officials for securing conviction.
