Khammam: An incident involving a 49-year-old man allegedly attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl and pushing her from a building, resulting in serious injuries, came to light in Khammam recently.

According to the police, the accused, Mohammed Ghouse of Raparthi Nagar, allegedly attempted to sexually assault the girl and pushed her from the fourth floor of a residential apartment in which he lives, allegedly in a bid to kill her. The accused works as a driver.

In the incident, which took place on June 6, the girl suffered multiple serious bleeding injuries and fractures and fell unconscious. Her parents, who found her injured, initially believed that she might have sustained the injuries after accidentally falling from the building.

The girl, who regained consciousness on Monday night, informed her parents about the incident and alleged that the accused Ghouse had assaulted her. The accused had also allegedly tried to molest the girl a few days before the June 6 incident.

Based on the girl’s statement and a complaint lodged by her parents, the Two Town police registered an FIR against the accused under the POCSO Act along with a case of attempt to murder. The accused was taken into custody and would be sent to judicial remand, the police said.

The girl had come to Khammam from Kothagudem a few days earlier along with her parents to visit her grandfather, who works as the watchman of the apartment. She is undergoing treatment at Mamata General Hospital in Khammam. Her condition is stated to be stable at present.

Former Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar promised to provide free medical treatment to the girl and pledged to stand by the family until she fully recovers and returns home. He urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation and demanded strict punishment for the accused.
