Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Friday announced the arrest of Mohd Qadeer, 48, a construction worker from Bidar in Karnataka, on charges of murdering two persons on the pavement last Sunday.
According to the Commissioner, Qadeer was staying in Borabanda and was addicted to alcohol. He usually slept on the pavement at Nampally and was earlier involved in four cases including a murder case at Nampally police station. He was also convicted in two theft cases.
On Sunday night, Qadeer went near the Nampally railway station and consumed liquor and returned to the pavement in Bazaar Ghat, where he demanded money from another pavement dweller. When he refused, Qadeer grabbed a stone and attacked him on his head, killing him on the spot.
“Qadeer took Rs.150 and a liquor bottle from the victim’s pocket and from there, he further went to another person identified as Khaja, who was sleeping in an auto trolley. He asked the victim for space to sleep, and when the latter refused, Qadeer bludgeoned him to death with a stone,” Anjani Kumar said.
Footage from surveillance cameras confirmed that Qadeer was involved in both the murders and was arrested from near the Public Gardens. He was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
