Adilabad: A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly grabbing forest land using forged documents in Mavala mandal centre. His wife, also named as an accused in the case, is currently absconding.
Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy said that Vakulabharanam Adinath, a resident of Shantinagar in Adilabad town, was apprehended for encroaching upon a piece of forest land and selling four house plots for Rs. 3.30 lakh at Khanapur in Mavala mandal. His wife Rajani, who is also accused of involvement in the offence, has evaded arrest.
During interrogation, Adinath confessed to the crime and admitted that he forged documents and misled buyers by falsely claiming ownership of the land. The fraud came to light after Forest Department officials reclaimed the land in 2022, and one of the duped buyers recently lodged a complaint with the police.
