Hyderabad: The LB Nagar police arrested a man on charges of harassing his wife, a transwoman for additional dowry here on Thursday.
The 29-year-old transwoman from Shivapuri Colony, who earned a living as a beggar, had a love marriage with T Mahesh (25), an auto-rickshaw driver from West Godavari of Andhra Pradesh, with whom she had become friends on Facebook. Police said as Mahesh knew she was a transgender person and still loved her and proposed to her. She agreed and they stayed with his family after their wedding in 2019.
“Mahesh had taken Rs 4 lakh from her for his personal needs. He later started harassing her for additional dowry. When she said she had no money left with her, his harassment increased,” police quoted the victim, adding that apart from Mahesh, his family members too harassed her.
