Hyderabad: In a joint operation, Customs officials along with Central Industrial Security Force personnel detained one person allegedly smuggling foreign currency and seized US dollars valued at Rs 21.4 lakh here on Wednesday. They were being smuggled to Dubai, officials said.

Following a tip-off about the male passenger from the city being in possession of foreign currency, with which he was planning to go abroad, teams detained him while he was attempting to depart by a flight to Dubai from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Customs officials suspect he was trying to smuggle the currency to Dubai to a client on a commission basis. Customs officials have started probing the source of the currency and its receiver.
