Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A man who admitted that he drew inspiration from Bollywood gangster films to make quick money at gunpoint was arrested on charges of extortion, criminal intimidation and attempting to murder a fertiliser trader’s brother in Koutala mandal centre on Tuesday. Police recovered weapons including a pistol, 15 live rounds, a mobile phone and a motorbike from him.
Superintendent of Police Nitika Pant said Kurbankar Ajay was taken into custody for demanding Rs.50 lakh from a fertiliser trader in Koutala by sending a threat letter on June 12, and for attempting to kill the trader’s brother in October. Ajay, a resident of Kouti Sandgaon village in Koutala mandal, was detained while he was allegedly heading to eliminate members of the trader’s family.
During interrogation, Ajay said he resorted to the crime to make money quickly, claiming he was influenced by some Bollywood gangster movies. He told police he procured the firearm from Saheb Kumar of Bihar for Rs.55,000. He admitted that he wrote a letter to the trader threatening to kill him if he failed to pay Rs.50 lakh, and later attempted to murder the trader’s brother with a pistol by waylaying him at 7 pm on October 15.
The 31-year-old told investigators he tried to fire at the trader’s brother but missed. He said he learnt about the availability of weapons through YouTube videos and practised firing near his village after basic training in Bihar.
Nitika praised Kagaznagar DSP Wahiduddin, Koutala Inspector B Santhosh Kumar, Sub-Inspectors D Chandrashekhar and Sandeep, and police personnel Ramesh, Sai Raj, Durga Prasad and Deepika for acting quickly to arrest Ajay.
