Khammam: A man jumped into the NSP canal in a suicide attempt while his wife allegedly died by suicide in separate incidents in Konijerla mandal in the district on Wednesday, leaving their two school-going children grieving for their parents.
According to relatives, 32-year-old Tejavath Hari Prasad of Ammapalem village married Sunitha (28) of Annavaram in the mandal about 15 years ago. The couple had two children, Manohar and Bhargavi, who are studying in Classes 7 and 5, respectively.
The couple was said to have been quarrelling for the past ten days over family disputes. Hari Prasad, an autorickshaw driver, called his brother and informed him that he was going to end his life and asked him to take care of his children.
Upon learning of this, Sunitha hanged herself from a fan at home. When the local police were informed of Hari Prasad’s phone call, they started a search for him. Meanwhile, locals informed the police that a man had jumped into the canal at Velugumatla.
When local SI G Suraj and staff reached the spot, Hari Prasad’s autorickshaw, cellphone and slippers were found. With the help of NDRF teams, police started searching for Hari Prasad in the canal, and he was yet to be traced.
