Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly murdered his wife by setting her on fire at their house in Nallakunta, reportedly over suspicions of her infidelity.
The brutal crime, which took place in the presence of the couple’s children on December 24, came late to light.
According to police, the suspect, Venkatesh, a native of Huzurabad in Nalgonda district, attacked his wife, Triveni, at their residence. During a heated argument, he allegedly assaulted her, poured petrol on her, and set her ablaze. When their daughter tried to intervene, the suspect reportedly pushed her into the flames, causing her minor injuries.
Hearing the victim’s screams, local residents rushed to the house and shifted both Triveni and her injured daughter to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Triveni dead on arrival, while the daughter survived with minor burn injuries.
Venkatesh and Triveni had a love marriage and have two children, daughter and son. Police stated that Venkatesh had frequently harassed Triveni due to his suspicions, leading to repeated quarrels.
Unable to bear the abuse, Triveni had recently gone to her parents’ house. However, Venkatesh later convinced her to return home, promising to change his behaviour.
Tragically, within a few days of her return, he committed the murder. After the incident, Venkatesh fled from the spot, but was arrested by the Nallakunta police within 12 hours of the crime. A case has been registered, and further investigation is on.
