Man shot dead in UP over alleged power theft dispute

A 33-year-old man was allegedly shot dead while returning from a friend’s birthday party in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district. Police said his family suspected the killing stemmed from a dispute with relatives over alleged electricity theft from public transmission lines

Etawah (UP): A 33-year-old man returning from a friend’s birthday party was shot dead in Pipri Pura village, with his family alleging the shooting stemmed from a dispute with relatives over stealing power from public transmission lines, police said on Sunday.

SHO of Jaswant Nagar police station Kamal Bhati said Rahul Kumar Yadav (33), a resident of Pipri Pura under the Jaswant Nagar police station area of Etawah district, was returning home late on Saturday evening when assailants shot him.

Alerted by the sound of gunfire, villagers and family members rushed to the scene. Police said they took the blood-soaked Yadav to the district hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Abhay Nath Tripathi and Circle Officer (CO) Jaswant Nagar Ayushi Singh also arrived at the hospital. Police sent the body for a post-mortem examination. Police formed a team to arrest the accused, and they are conducting raids at suspected hideouts.
