Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Wednesday said the Manair River Front works would commence in August once the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is completed in July. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has sanctioned Rs 410 crore for the Manair River Front development project, he said.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for traffic islands at Telangana Chowk here, Kamalakar said earlier, both the Central and State governments used to sanction funds once in a term. The situation, however, changed after State formation, he said. “The Chief Minister, who has soft corner for Karimangar which played a vital role in the Statehood movement, has sanctioned thousands of crore to take up developmental works without rejecting any proposal,” he said.
Karimnagar has been developed as a clean and green city to meet the aspiration of Chandrashekhar Rao. “The city will be a beautiful destination soon once all the ongoing developmental works are completed. The landscape of the city has changed with the completion of a 14.5 km road, medians, central lighting system and footpaths and roads that have been laid to survive for the next 20 years,” the Minister said.
Earlier, cows and pigs used to stay in traffic islands. However, the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar has paid attention to the development of junctions. A pleasant atmosphere has been developed in the islands by arranging water fountains as well as greenery.
Except Telangana Thalli junction, development of all other junctions such as Naka chowk, Telangana chowk, and IB junction was taken up with Rs 50 lakhs of smart city funds.
Stating that Telangana Thalli junction was a sensitive issue, he informed to take a decision by consulting with all sections of the society.
As promised earlier, supply of daily water is being continued and steps have been taken to supply water 24×7.
Kamalakar informed to install a statue of former Prime Minister PV Narsimha Rao as part of the centenary celebrations of the later PM, who introduced economic reforms in the country. Foundation for installation of statue would be laid at Telangana chowk on July 28.
Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao, Commissioner Valluru Kranthi, deputy mayor Challa Swaroopa Rani and others participated in the programme.
