Mancherial: 22-year-old woman dies by suicide; parents allege harassment by husband

Mancherial: A woman, who got married barely a month ago, died allegedly by suicide, at Gollapelli hamlet under Peddampet village in Hajipur mandal on Monday night.
Hajipur Sub-Inspector N Swarup Raj said Kandi Shruthi, 22, the wife of Sai Kumar from Gollapelli died by hanging. Hailing from Tekanapalli, Shruthi was married to Saikumar on March 16. In a petition lodged with police, the woman’s father Kandi Srinivas alleged that Shruti was forced to commit suicide as she was unable to bear harassment of her husband and in-laws. He claimed that he promised to pay Rs.2 lakh on March 20 after being pressured by Sai Kumar and his parents for additional dowry. He regretted that Shruthi was forced to end her life.
Meanwhile, Shruti’s parents and relatives staged a sit-in in front of Sai Kumar’s residence demanding action against him. They withdrew their protest after the police assured them of justice. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against Sai Kumar based on the complaint received from Srinivas. It was learnt that parents of Sai Kumar were detained and were being interrogated.
