Mancherial: Policemen working under Bellampalli police sub-division collected 1,045 units of blood by conducting a blood donation camp to mark Police Martyrs Commemoration Day or Flag Day, Bellampalli and Mandamarri towns on Wednesday. Bellampalli MLA Durgam Chinnaiah was the chief guest of the event.

Bellampalli Assistant Commissioner of Police Adla Mahesh said that the police scripted a record of sorts by collecting over 1,000 units of blood in the State for the first time. He stated that the blood would be used for patients of Thalassemia and sickle cell, blood disorders. He informed the media that 45 policemen, hundreds of youngsters and scribes voluntarily donated blood for the cause.

The ACP further said that while 660 units of blood were donated by participants at the camp organised at a function in Bellampalli, 385 units of blood was raised at another camp conducted in Mandamarri town. He requested the public to come forward to donate their blood for the needy. He opined that it was a welcoming sign to see the overwhelming response to the camp.

MLA Chinnaiah was all praise for the policemen for organising the mega blood donation camp. He said that police were setting an example to others in conducting social service activities following the formation of Telangana. He patted ACP Mahesh for making the event a success. He stated that he felt happy to have graced the programme.
