Mancherial: The bodies of four miners who were killed after a roof collapsed in SRP 3 and 3A incline were found late on Wednesday evening. The bodies were shifted to Mancherial district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.
The bodies of V Krishna Reddy (57), Beera Laxmaiah (60), Rinka Chandrasekhar (32) and G Satya Narayana Raju (32) were retrieved from the debris at around 10 pm after nearly six hours of struggle by a rescue team.
According to the authorities of SCCL’s Srirampur Are, about 40 personnel of a rescue team struggled for nearly six hours and managed to retrieve the bodies. “The bodies were trapped under a large-sized boulder, which was a part of the roof that fell on them. The roof stitching or bolting operation was not carried out properly, resulting in the mishap,” an official said.
Meanwhile, kin of the victims and their colleagues flocked to the mine after learning about the accident. The colleagues of the victims, who waited for nearly eight hours from the afternoon, were not allowed to take the final glimpse of the bodies. Policemen rushed the bodies to district headquarters anticipating protests by the miners. Trade unions alleged that cops showed over-enthusiasm in shifting the bodies.
