Mancherial devotee drowns in Jampanna vaagu at Medaram
A 45-year-old devotee from Mancherial district drowned in the Jampanna Vaagu at Medaram while performing a holy dip during the Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara. Despite immediate search operations by SDRF and NDRF teams, his body was recovered hours later.
Mulugu: A devotee who had entered the Jampanna Vaagu (stream) at Medaram for a holy dip was caught in the undercurrent and lost his life.
Kiran (45) of Mancherial district had come to Medaram with his family on Wednesday to have darshan of the goddesses. While performing the traditional holy dip in the Jampanna stream, he was swept away by the water as shocked family members watched the incident.
Upon receiving the information, SDRF and NDRF teams immediately reached the spot, launched search operations for hours in the stream and recovered the body. The body was shifted to the hospital for post-mortem examination.
Officials said that the sudden increase in depth at some points in the Jampanna stream and the strong undercurrents were the reasons for the accident. They cautioned the devotees to be careful while taking a holy dip in the stream.
