Mancherial: Forest officials imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 against a person for feeding monkeys in the forests of Bheemaram mandal centre on Friday.

Mancherial Forest Range Officer Rathnakar Rao said the fine was imposed against Odelu of Makhdumpur village from Karimnagar district for offering snacks to monkeys in the forests. He stated that a special team stationed in the forests caught Odelu while feeding the monkeys. The team explained the consequences of feeding the monkeys to Odelu.

Forest officials advised the public not to feed the monkeys as it would kill their natural instincts of finding food and make them depend on humans. They reasoned that the monkeys would then stray into human settlements in search of food and attack civilians over a period of time. They cited the monkey menace being faced by residents of Bheemaram mandal centre.
