Mancherial: Four persons including two juveniles were arrested for allegedly lifting vehicles in different parts of district headquarters. Assistant Commissioner of Police Akhil Mahajan briefed details of the arrests to pressmen here on Thursday. A lorry, seven motorbikes and two mobiles were recovered from their possession.
According to the police, accused were identified as Mohammad Mahaboob, an auto-rickshaw mechanic from Masjid wada of Mancherial town and Rasabattula Prasad, a daily earner of Raman colony in Mandamarri. They were taken into custody when moving suspiciously, following a tip-off.
During the course of the interrogations, Mahaboob and Prasad confessed to committing the crime for making a fast buck, with the help of the juveniles. They admitted that they lifted the vehicles parked in several parts of the town in the night. They disclosed that they were stealing tyres of vehicles including trucks too. Prasad revealed that he was a habitual offender.
The IPS officer commended members of a special team, formed for chasing the vehicle lifting cases, for nabbing the lifters in a quick span of time. The members included Inspector ML Muttilingaiah, Sub-Inspectors V Praveen Kumar, Devaiah, Kiran Kumar, head constable Diwakar, constables Srinivas, Brahma Chary, Venkatesh and Budde Srinivas.
