Mancherial gram panchayat sees nomination from transgender woman
Kummari Srinivas, also known as Vaishali, a 39-year-old transgender candidate, filed nominations for the Venkatraopalli grampanchayat elections in Jaipur Mandal. She is the only transgender contestant in the district and vows to focus on village development if elected.
Mancherial: Kummari Srinivas alias Vaishali, a transgender, filed nominations from Venkatraopalli grampanchayat reserved for general category in Jaipur mandal on Thursday.
Officials said that Vaishali was the only transgender person to be in the fray in elections to local bodies in the district. She exuded confidence in winning in the polls. She promised to strive hard to develop the village on many fronts if elected. She stated that she was determined to serve the public and to excel in politics.
The 39-year-old had earlier dropped nominations from Chennur Assembly segment, but withdrew later.
