Ramagundam Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana addressing mediapersons after arresting the three accused in double murder case
Mancherial: Police have cracked the mystery behind the sensational murder of a woman and her mother with the arrest of the former’s husband from Nizamabad and two others from Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. Two mobile phones were recovered from them.
Giving details of the arrests, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana said the accused were Kaleru Arun Kumar, a resident of Bodhan in Nizamabad district, Ajjavarapu Roshaiah alias Bittu alias Dileep from Amaravati in Guntur district and Dandam Venkata Subba Rao or Subbu, a native of Tenali, but resident of Peddaprolu in Krishna district.
The victims were Pudari Ravina (26), wife of Arun Kumar and her mother Pudari Vijayalaxmi (47), a widow from Brindavan colony in Mancherial. They were found dead under suspicious circumstances in their flat on June 18. Arun and Ravina fell in love with each after getting acquainted through Facebook in 2019. They, however, were living separately following alleged harassment by Arun seeking additional dowry.
Arun Kumar was detained while moving suspiciously at a bus stand in Nizamabad. Roshaiah and Subba Rao were apprehended in Andhra Pradesh.
In the course of interrogation, Arun Kumar confessed to committing the offence with the assistance of Roshaiah and Subba Rao for a payment of Rs 10 lakh to kill his wife and mother-in-law. He admitted that he eliminated the two as he nursed a grudge against them for lodging complaints with police and for creating a wedge between him and his wife.
Arun Kumar said he contacted Roshaiah and Subba Rao on WhatsApp call. He stated that the three gained entry into the flat from the rear and killed Vijayalaxmi Ravina through strangulation.
The IPS officer commended Inspector ML Muttilingaiah, Sub-Inspectors Kiran Kumar, Praveen Devaiah, and Mahender and members of six special teams, formed for nabbing the accused, for showing spontaneity in arresting the three offenders. He handed over cash rewards to the police officials.
Mancherial DCP D Uday Kumar Reddy, OSD Sharath Chandra and ACP Akhil Mahajan were present.
