Mancherial: Padma Sandesh Gupta, a young animal lover and conservationist, set out on a 4,000 km expedition from Mancherial to the temple town of Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, with the sole objective to create awareness among motorists over deaths of animals caused by vehicles. On Sunday, he kick-started his second marathon cycling journey.

The founder of Friends Animal Trust, a Mancherial-based voluntary organisation that strives for feeding monkeys and conducts final rites of animals that die on roads, Sandesh performed special prayers at Sri Hanuman-Shirdi Sai temple in Hamaliwada.

The 31-year old social activist successfully cycled from Mancherial to Varanasi, to create awareness on deaths of animals by vehicles on national highways covering a distance of 2,500 km from June 27 to August 4. He was appreciated by Mancherial ACP Ahil Mahajan and many others for accomplishing the arduous journey facing odds.

Sandesh is known for providing fruits such as bananas, watermelons and pomegranate to anthropoids dwelling in forests of Jaipur, Jannaram and on the premises of prominent Sri Satyanarayana Swamy temple at Gudem in Dandepalli mandal and Sri Bugga Raja Rajeshwara Swamy shrine near Kannala village in Bellampalli mandal and many other pilgrim centres on weekends and certain festivals.
