Siddipet: A man’s experience with the free bus service left Manakonduru MLA Kavvampally Satyanarayana flummoxed during a village-level meeting at Regulapally village on Tuesday.
During the “Prajala Vaddaku Palana” programme organised in the village, a man, Bandi Kanakaiah, told the MLA that his wife had left home following an argument with him recently. Since bus services were free for women, he said, it took him five days to trace her. His travel expenses for this purpose touched Rs 2,000.
Everyone present at the meeting burst into laughter upon hearing the man’s account of the free bus service. Kanakaiah said his wife had never travelled such distances when bus services were not free.
While trying to convince the man, the MLA suggested that Kanakaiah not search for her if she left home again. When Kanakaiah said there would be nobody to cook for him when he returned home from work, the MLA asked him to approach the local police so they could trace her easily.
Even though everyone laughed at the conversation, it pointed to the underlying issues in the Maha Lakshmi scheme launched by the Congress government.
