Kothagudem: CPI (Maoist) party Kerlapal area committee (Darbha division committee) member surrendered to the district police here on Thursday.

The surrendered naxal, Kalumu Payiki of Palya village in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh State joined the Maoists in 2009 as militia member of Muler Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC). She was made dalam member in 2012, informed Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju.

She served as Kerlapal Local Organising Squad (LOS) deputy commander until 2017, later as Jan Militia commander. In 2020 she was promoted as area committee member and was made militia commander.

In 2021, she married Kerlapal area committee member Madivi Mohan alias Mohan. She carries a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh. Payiki decided to surrender to the police due to her failing health, increased encounters and setting up new police camps in Maoist affected areas.

She was also upset over the discrimination shown by top leaders towards lower cadres.

She surrendered to Kothagudem police as she was impressed with the facilities being provided by the police to surrendered naxals on behalf of the State government. The underground Maoist cadres who wish to surrender could do so through their family members or by contacting police, Rohith Raju said.
