Mancherial: The banned Maoist party said the Congress government cheated staffers and workers of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) by not extending a bonus share on the net profit. Its coal belt committee secretary Prabhas released a letter to the government on Monday.
According to the letter, the party said the government and leaders of INTUC and AITUC were trying to dupe the workers of the SCCL by using the statistics. It found fault with the government for setting aside Rs 2,289 crore for expansions and wondered if the profits were earned by the staff and workers or not.
The party said that the coal major earned the profits with the help of sacrifices of the workers. It wanted 20 percent of bonus to workers who were employed with the SCCL on contract basis. It also alleged that it was shameful for leaders of trade unions Janak Prasad and Seetharamaiah not to achieve income tax waiver for coal miners. Both were indulging in wrongdoings with the help of their positions, it alleged.
It demanded the government to utilize the funds, set aside for expansion, for welfare of staff, health and education, implementation of housing scheme and waiving of income tax.
