Kothagudem: The CPI (Maoist) South Sub-Zonal Bureau (SSZB) has called upon public in Bastar division in Chhattisgarh State to intensify their agitations against setting up of CRPF camp at Silger village on the borders of Bijapur and Sukma districts.

In a statement released to the media offices here on Tuesday the Maoists condemned alleged atrocities against Adivasis who protested against the newly set up CRPF camp at the village. In protest against the massacre ‘Dandakaranya bandh’ was called on June 5, they said.’

The SSZB wanted the public to stage protests in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and in all other States demanding withdrawal of para-military and police camps in Adivasi villages. The Maoists asked people to demand punishment to Basar IG, Sundarraj P, Bijapur SP, Kamlochan Kashyap and DRG forces for resorting to violence against Adivasis at Silger.

As many as 296 innocent tribals of 38 villages were injured seriously in the lathi charging by police while three villagers died in the firing by police on May 17. The protests by Adivasis against police camps were aimed at preserving their self-respect and to protect natural resources, the Maoists claimed.
