Maoists employ tribal children as guards, cooks: Kothagudem SP
Police have credible information that many innocent tribal children below the age of 18 years were being engaged by the Maoist party central committee leaders in their daily activities, said SP Sunil Dutt
Kothagudem: The outlawed CPI (Maoist) has been employing tribal minor girls and boys as guards to party leaders and cooks for dalams, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Dutt said on Sunday.
In a statement here, the SP said police have credible information that many innocent tribal children below the age of 18 years were being engaged by the Maoist party central committee members and leaders in their daily activities. Further, the Maoist leadership was forcefully imparting training to tribal girls and boys in handling firearms, which was a gross violation of human rights and child rights, Dutt noted.

The police official appealed to human rights and child rights organisations in the State to come forward to protect innocent tribal minors from the clutches of Maoists. The Police department was ready to provide assistance to rights protection organisations and associations, he said.
He informed that through the ‘Operation Muskaan’, Kothagudem district police have so far rescued around 14 child labourers. Cases were booked against those who employed the children in work violating the law.
Dutt asserted that through newly formed Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) the district police had taken strong measures eradicate human trafficking. All the officials and personnel were instructed to work for the protection of women and child rights.
