Hyderabad: The annual festival of Mother Mary, popularly known as Mary Matha festival, will be celebrated on Wednesday at the historic Shrine of Our Lady of Good Health at AC Guards, according to the Parish Priest, Reverend Father Govindu Arogya Swamy here on Tuesday. Pilgrims from all walks of life irrespective of caste, creed and religion are expected to converge at the Holy Shrine to offer prayers on the auspicious occasion. All Covid protocols have been put in place with utmost care to ensure safety of the pilgrims.
According to Father Govindu, about 120 years ago, the miraculous statue of the Mother Mary which is adorned in a specially built high altar at the Shrine of Our Lady of Health, was brought from Italy. The shrine dedicated to Mother Mary is the first in Asia with octagonal shape church known for its architectural beauty. The foundation stone of the church was laid by the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan.
The Mother Mary festivities started with the flag hoisting on August 9, followed by nine-day novena prayers by various churches in Hyderabad.
On the festival day, the Holy Mass will begin from midnight, followed by Mass at 4 am, 6 am and 8.45 am.
Archbishop of Hyderabad, Reverend Poola Anthony will celebrate the Pontifical High Mass in Telugu at 10.30 am. The public veneration of the miraculous statue will be round the clock adhering to Covid norms. A grand care procession with the miraculous statue of Mother Mary will be taken out at 4 pm. The specially designed procession car was gifted and decorated by the employees of SCR signals and telecommunications.
