Reigniting the flame of the already kindled ‘Bursa’ Collection from Winter 2020, Master Couturier JJ Valaya has yet again paved the way for his signature regality to flow through his latest interpretation of Bursa for the summer of 2021.
An ode to the culturally rich, sophisticated yet elaborate Ottoman Empire, the Bursa transcends through the by-lanes of the ancient city and is an alluring tribute to Persian heritage. With a legacy spanning almost three decades, JJ Valaya’s Couture now launches his magnificent collection exclusively on Instagram on February 14.
A self-proclaimed royal nomad at heart, JJ Valaya has invariably drawn inspiration from civilisations that have held sartorial and artistic significance in the past. Keeping intact the inspiration points behind the former Bursa Collection, yet respecting the change of season, the collection plays with lighter silks and organzas in order to bring forth the requisite resplendence required for weddings and occasions that are being held in the new season.
While traditional colours like reds and its family are synonymous with Valaya, this collection also welcomes the changing season with open arms by celebrating soft summer shades and myriad hues. A conscious effort has been made to retain the pristine splendour of the Valaya legacy with the utilisation of antiquated metals, gotta, silk threads and intricate gold embroidery which have fondly been associated with all Valaya heirlooms. With his inspiration being influenced by the past, this collection’s interpretation showcases a diverse range of modern cuts and styles.
One such example of this cultural balance would be the use of faux leather and velvet patches beautifully applique onto silk, which bestows a modern element to intricate bygone work. With his work achieving a niche status of exceptional quality, the Valaya team leaves no stone unturned to maintain such exacting standards. However, the highlight of this collection is the Emrooz (means ‘today’ in Persian) border which is quintessentially a timeless bejewelled border carefully sewn into several pieces of the collection.
With this new collection, the Master Couturier has once again stamped his reign as a leading entity behind bringing to life a diversified range of culturally inspired collections, which exquisitely amalgamate and present a contemporary outlook to an oft-forgotten world
