Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) Department has established four working groups to strengthen the Hyderabad Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (HUMTA).

In a Government Order (GO) issued on Monday, the MA&UD Department said the working groups will facilitate structured decision-making, coordinated planning and the timely implementation of urban mobility initiatives, besides submitting recommendations to the HUMTA Board for further action.

The first working group, comprising the Special Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary to Government, MA&UD Department (HMDA Limits), will focus on policy development and smart urban mobility solutions.

The second working group, under the chairmanship of the zonal commissioners, will implement minor road improvement proposals such as junction and corridor improvement plans, skywalks and non-motorised transport (NMT) proposals to enhance traffic flow and safety.

The third working group, to be chaired by the GHMC Commissioner, will ensure the fair, safe and efficient use of public spaces through appropriate regulations and transparent enforcement mechanisms, while maintaining urban order, supporting inclusive livelihoods and improving mobility and accessibility for all.

In the fourth working group, the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, will serve as the chairman for the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). The group will develop a unified, real-time, data-driven system for traffic management and multimodal coordination, supported by comprehensive documentation and the integration of transport infrastructure and traffic data, the GO said.
