Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on illegal constructions, Municipal Administration and Urban Development officials on Saturday sealed 100 villas and demolished another four in Mallampet of Dundigal Municipality.

As per records of the Revenue Department, there are 260 illegal villas in Mallampet. It was from among these that 100 were sealed by Dundigal Municipal officials on Saturday. The officials, after sealing the structures, also tied banners saying the buildings were sealed under Section 181 (1) of the Telangana Municipalities Act-2019 for carrying out construction unauthorisedly.

Officials said the villas were built without mandatory permission from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Commissioner & Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA), following which the enforcement activity was taken up. The structures were constructed based just on permission from panchayat secretaries of the gram panchayat, which was not sufficient, they said.

In the same locality, eight villas were built in the Full Tank Level (FTL)/ Buffer Zone of the Katwa Cheruvu. Of these, four were demolished on Saturday. These structures are apart from the 260 illegal villas. The remaining four in the FTL will be demolished soon, an official from the Dundigal Municipality said, adding that there were 66 villas approved by the HMDA in the same area, which were not disturbed.

The sealing and demolition drive came after a letter to the Municipal Commissioner of Dundigal Municipality from Medchal-Malkajgiri District Collector asking for stringent action against illegal constructions, wrongdoers and to report compliance.

“The demolition drive and the enforcement activity will continue in the same area, where there are many more such illegal constructions,” an MA&UD official said.
