Hyderabad: Bahujan Samajwadi Party’s (BSP) supremo and UP’s Dalit leader Mayawati will be celebrating her 69th birthday on Wednesday, which will be celebrated as Jan Kalyankari Diwas (People’s Welfare Day).

The party leaders and cadre have made elaborate arrangements to celebrate her birthday on a grand scale by cutting cakes. Mayawati will also address the cadre at the party headquarters in Lucknow.

It is being reported that Mayawati will decide her poll strategy for Milkipur by-polls in Uttar Pradesh on her birthday. Though BSP is not contesting for Milkipur constituency, its party leader may indicate to which political party’s candidate, she and her cadre will extend their support.

The BSP leader has invited the party cadre, including district-level leaders, for a meeting on January 16, during which poll strategies, infusing new cadre, expansion, and making the party more inclusive by bringing Muslim, Brahmin, and other community leaders to the party fold, will be decided.

Also, there has been a talk that Mayawati will sound the bugle for the next Assembly elections by announcing ‘Mission 2027’ on her birthday. The main focus of ‘Mission 2027’ will be on bringing back its former leaders and cadre, who left the party. She has plans to intensify its poll campaign by March this year.

On the occasion, Mayawati will also unveil the latest edition of ‘Mera Sangharshmay Jeevan ka Safarnama’. The book chronicles the activities and events of the BSP and is released every year on the party president’s birthday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday greeted Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on her birthday.

The leaders extended their greetings and prayed for her health and long life.

“Hearty birthday greetings to former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati Ji! I pray to Lord Shri Ram for your long life and excellent health,” Adityanath posted on X.

Yadav wrote, “Hearty birthday greetings and best wishes to Mayawati Ji.” Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also conveyed his wishes to Mayawati.

An ex-Member of Parliament, the 1956-born Mayawati is a four-time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

In 2024 general elections, the Bahujan Samaj Party could not win a single seat despite contesting the highest number of seats among the six national parties, fielding candidates in 488 constituencies, including all 80 in Uttar Pradesh.

The BSP’s absence from the 18th Lok Sabha coincided with the entry of Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad, who centered his campaign on fulfilling the ‘dreams of Dalit icon Kanshi Ram’, the leader who was the mentor of Mayawati.
