Telangana: MBBS and dental PG aspirants urge government intervention to reduce fee
The fee for medical and dental PG courses under Category B management quota in Telangana hovers from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 24 lakh, which is way beyond the financial ability of many dental and MBBS completed students, they said
Hyderabad: Dental and MBBS doctors pursuing PG dental and medical specialty courses have criticised the exorbitant fee charged by private dental colleges in Telangana State. On Thursday, they urged the State government’s intervention to address the fee hike affected by private health care institutions on specialty medical and dental courses.
The fee for medical and dental PG courses under Category B management quota in Telangana hovers from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 24 lakh, which is way beyond the financial ability of many dental and MBBS completed students, they said. Similarly, even in Category A quota medical and dental PG seats, with a portion of the seats falling under Convener quota, the annual fee ranges from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
On Thursday, the All India Dental Students and Surgeons Association wrote a letter to Health Minister, Damodar Raja Narasimha, urging the State government’s intervention in reducing the fee.
“Not all dental and medical students of Telangana State can afford such expensive medical seats in Category A and B. There is a need for the State government through the Health Minister to intervene on this issue and issue a Government Order that aligns fee structure for Category A and Category B seats with other neighboring States. This will ensure parity and reduce the financial stress in students while maintaining uniformity in medical education and fee across the region,” says national president, All India Dental and Surgeons Association, Dr Md Manzur Ahmed, said.
Compared to Telangana State, the medical and dental PG seats under Category A and B in Andhra Pradesh are lesser. In Category A, the fee ranges from Rs 3.41 lakh to Rs 4.9 crore while in Category B management quota, it ranges from Rs 6.83 crore to Rs 9.93 crore.
“Medical and dental students of Telangana State are under severe financial burden and difficulties due to fee hike for medical courses in private institutions. The State government must intervene on this issue,” Dr Manzur said.
