MBBS fresher ‘forced’ to trim beard by seniors; probe launched in Siddipet college
A first-year MBBS student at Surabhi Medical College, Siddipet, has alleged ragging by seniors who forced him to trim his beard despite a religious vow. He claims the anti-ragging committee ignored his plea. Police launched an inquiry after his parents complained
Siddipet: A first-year MBBS student at Surabhi Medical College in Siddipet was allegedly harassed by senior students, who forced him to trim his beard inside the hostel, bringing a serious case of ragging to light.
The student, Saikrishna, who joined the college on November 17, said the seniors targeted him during an interaction session with juniors. Despite informing them that he had taken a vow at a temple and could not shave, the seniors reportedly compelled him to trim his beard.
Saikrishna said he approached the anti-ragging committee for help, but received no support. When he resisted and complained, the seniors allegedly abused him, entered his room without consent, seized his mobile phones and forced him to do sit-ups.
Following a complaint lodged by Saikrishna’s parents, the Three Town police visited the medical college on Wednesday evening and launched an inquiry into the incident.
