Khammam: All precautionary measures have been taken to contain the second wave of Coronavirus in the district, informed the District Collector RV Karnan.

Collector Karnan and Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqubal on Wednesday received the first dose of Covaxin at the Government District Hospital here as part of the second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector urged citizens to take the covid vaccine adding that even after receiving the vaccine one must wear facemasks, use sanitiser and maintain social distance to stop spread of the virus.

Referring to the Covid-19 second wave, he said no serious cases have been reported in the district so far. However the district administration has ensured availability of intensive care unit (ICU) and isolation ward at the District Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Karnan directed the health officials to conduct Covid-19 testing for all pregnant women visiting the hospital. Doctors and other staff have to be alert and responsible in dealing with the patients as the coronavirus cases were on the rise, he suggested.

Arrangements were in place at the District Hospital, Area Hospitals, Community Health Centre and Primary Health Centres to administer Covid vaccine. Everyone in the district has to follow covid guidelines for their own safety and the safety of their family members, the Collector noted.

The District Medical and Health Officer Dr. B Malathi, District Hospital Superintendent Dr. B Venkateshwarlu, doctors Srinivas Rao and Krupa Sri, ACP Ramiji Ramesh and others were present.
