Medak farmers allege overcharging for urea at PACS centre

Farmers at a PACS centre in Nizampet, Medak, alleged that staff charged Rs 300 for a urea bag against the MRP of Rs 266 and collected additional hamali charges. Farmers across erstwhile Medak district continue to face urea shortages.

Medak: The farmers who turned up at the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS), Nizampet centre, to collect urea bags were left shocked as the staff charged Rs 34 additionally for each bag. The farmers were shocked as the staff demanded that they pay Rs 300 per bag instead of Rs 266, the MRP of a bag of urea.

In addition to that, the staff also collected Rs 10 towards hamali charges, adding to the burden on the farmers. The farmers picked up an argument with the staff, but they remained stubborn, making life worse for farmers. It is not only an isolated case, as farmers across the erstwhile Medak district continued to suffer over the shortage of urea.

The serpentine queues and placing of chappals in queue lines became the order of the day. Even though the farmers have organised multiple protests demanding the scrapping of the online booking system, the government refused to budge.
