Medak: In an unusual contest, a man and his son were competing for the sarpanch post at Jhansi Lingapur in Ramayampet mandal.
The election for the village, which would be held in the second phase, was a major topic of discussion across the district. Former sarpanch Manegala Krishnaiah and his son Venkatesham had filed nominations for the post.
Krishnaiah was elected as sarpanch of the village in 2013 and 2019 when he was supported by BRS. He was elected unanimously in 2019. However, he had recently joined the Congress Party. While he was preparing to file his nomination papers, his son Venkatesham submitted his nomination as they failed to reach a consensus.
Meanwhile, family members and Congress Party leaders were trying to convince them to let one of them withdraw from the contest. It had become a key point of discussion among the voters in the village. The village had 1,563 voters in 10 wards.
