Medak: A leopard, which was terrorising villagers, was trapped in a cage placed by Forest Department at Kamaram Tanda of Chinna Shankarampet Mandal in Medak district late on Saturday night.
The leopard had killed a number of domestic animals and local cattle-herders spotted them many times in forest fringe areas, prompting the Forest officials to place a cage to capture it for release in deep forest area following request by farmers.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, District Forest Officer Gnaneshwar said the leopard will be shifted to Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad and released in the forest later. Stating that it was one-and-half year old healthy wildcat, the DFO said leopards normally don’t attack humans. However, the villagers complained that there were more leopards on the prowl in the area. The authorities have appealed to the farmers not to venture into the forest area.
